PULS DC UPS System

In industrial automation, most signal-level circuitry requires a lower voltage than the main supply.  While the mains supply is often 110/120 single-phase, 220/240 single phase, or 440/480 three-phase, the numerous sensors that are required typically operate at lower voltages, most in the 10-30 VDC range.  Therefore, control cabinets must supply both higher voltages often used for the loads, and lower voltages for the sensors.  It is common to think of a “UPS System” as providing 110 vac in the event of mains power loss, as is done with computers, to prevent loss of data.

PULS is a manufacturer of quality, high-efficiency power supplies with the longest rated life in the industry.  It was natural, several years ago, for PULS to introduce their DC UPS System.  The PULS DC UPS System is designed to continue to provide the lower, DC voltages, for the “buffered” loads, in the event of a loss of mains power.  This is significant as many rotary and linear assembly machines may coast to a stop upon mains power loss, and without its sensors remaining active, upon startup, the machine may have lost valuable information regarding it position, and/or the status of the product on it that it was processing.

The PULS DC UPS System uses either a single 12 or 24-volt battery.  Interestingly, the PULS unit using only a single 12-volt battery, with its voltage-doubler circuit, protects existing 24 VDC circuits.   The PULS DC UPS System manages its battery during normal (non-mains loss) operation to ensure they are always at optimum capacity in the event they are needed.  For clarification, the PULS DC UPS System does not connect to or monitor the mains power for its loss, but rather it connects to the machine’s existing (“unbuffered”) 24 vdc power supply and supports all loads that are connected to the output of the PULS DC UPS System (“buffered loads”) for the duration of time for which the user specifies the PULS DC UPS System battery ratings; i.e., available from 7 to 140 Ahr ratings.

As with all PULS products, e.g., power supplies, DC/DC converters, Buffer Modules, Circuit Protection Modules, the PULS DC UPS System is 100% DIN Rail mount for ease of installation or eventual replacement at end of life.
